The Breastfeeding Family's Guide to Nonprescription Drugs and Everyday Products

Dr. Frank J. Nice has been an expert consultant, lecturer, and author on medications and breastfeeding for over 45 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, a master’s degree in pharmacy administration, master’s and doctorate degrees in public administration, and certification in public health pharmacy. 

He spent 30 years of distinguished government service with the U.S. Public Health Service. He later practiced at the National Institutes of Health, where he was also an assistant program director of the Clinical Neurosciences Program, before working as a pharmacist and project manager at the Food and Drug Administration. Now retired, he continues to write and lecture in addition to serving as a pharmacy consultant and the president of Dr. Nice's Natural Products.

Dr. Nice has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles on prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and herbals used during breastfeeding. His books include Nonprescription Drugs for the Breastfeeding Mother (the precursor to this book); The Galactagogue Recipe Book; and Recreational Drugs and Drugs Used to Treat Addicted Mothers: Impact on Pregnancy and Breastfeeding.

Alongside his career as a pharmacist, Dr. Nice has organized and participated in over 60 medical missions to Haiti. He helped start the Orphelinat Coeur d’ Jesus (Heart of Jesus Orphanage), a K–13 school in Haiti that serves 550 students and houses approximately 50 orphans. He is also a founding member of Health and Education for Haiti (HEH), a nonprofit that aims to address medical, educational, infrastructural, and basic needs for the people of Haiti.
